A retired Chicago cop was grazed in a shootout with a hijacker Wednesday morning in Austin, police said.
The 78-year-old former officer tried to stop someone who had hijacked his neighbor's car at about 1:45 a.m. on the 300 North Mayfield Avenue block, exchanging fire with him, Chicago police said.
The retired police officer grazed his left thumb and was taken to hospital in good condition, according to police. His neighbour, a 52-year-old man, was not injured.
The hijacker drove away in the 52-year-old man's Jeep and crashed it into a car parked on the 600 North Waller Avenue block, police said.
A weapon was found at the scene, police said.
No arrests were reported.
