CHICAGO (WLS) — Chicago Police said an off-duty officer was stabbed multiple times Friday morning during an altercation at a North Side bar.
Police say some type of altercation started inside the Mark II Lounge on the 7400 North Western Avenue block in the West Rogers Park neighborhood at around 4 a.m.
“It's terrible. I mean, blood… it was everywhere on my car,” said resident Nancy Perdue.
The altercation, which involved many people, spilled over and the officer was stabbed several times, CPD said. The 36-year-old officer was taken to St. Francis in Evanston with serious but non-life threatening injuries. The officer remains in serious condition.
Police say Area Three Detectives are questioning anyone concerned, but no charges have been filed yet.
Neighbors shaken.
“I walk the streets of Rogers Park with no problem, and so does my wife and our dog, and I wouldn't let her do it alone at night,” said resident Ned Targos.
“We are not used to experiencing crimes like this,” Perdue said.
Several neighbors said they had called the police in the past because of previous fights that broke out at the bar, and they were now hoping this incident would prompt action.
