Chicago weather forecast: Parts of the area see a Severe Thunderstorm Warning Saturday, it's likely to snow Sunday in Chicago

CHICAGO (WLS) — Get ready for this weekend's weather rollercoaster, Chicago!

Several moderate storms passed through the Chicago area Saturday afternoon. However, the Chicago area is under threat of severe weather as thunderstorms are expected to spread across northern Illinois by Saturday evening.

Several suburbs north and west of Chicago, along with some counties in Wisconsin, saw a Severe Thunderstorm Warning late Saturday, but that warning has since expired.

Severe Thunderstorm Warning issued for the McHenry, Boone, DeKalb, Ogle and Winnebago counties of Illinois has expired.

Severe Thunderstorm Warning also issued to Rock, Kenosha, Racine and Walworth counties in Wisconsin, but has expired.

ABC7 meteorologist Jaisol Martinez said the damaging winds, hail and frequent thunderstorms were the biggest threats in any developing storm.

A thunderstorm is expected between 7pm and 12am. The main area of ​​concern is southwest Chicago, Martinez said. The storm will be moving northeast at around 40 mph.

The Hurricane Prediction Center has most of Chicago under “marginal” severe weather risk, level 1 of 5. The far southwest suburb is in the “mild” risk category, level 2 of 5.

Additional storms are possible in the evening through Sunday, but are not expected to become too severe.

Then, big changes will occur on Sunday. We'll see the warmest weather in the morning, with high temperatures around 60, before cooler weather brings windy conditions and possibly mixed rain/snow on Sunday evening.

Sunday night's low will be around freezing.
