Chrissy Teigen and John Legend have welcomed a son via surrogate, just five months after Teigen gave birth to their daughter Esti.
The surprising announcement came in a moving post on Teigen's verified Instagram page on Wednesday, where she wrote, “Just minutes before midnight on June 19, I witnessed the most beautiful woman, my friend, our surrogate, give birth amidst a bit of chaos, but with strength and joy and pure love.”
Legend also shared a celebratory post to his verified Instagram, marking the birth of their “new love.”
Teigen shared a photo of their newborn son in her post and shared the story of his birth, also referring to her family's joy over Esti's birth while continuing to recover from having a miscarriage in 2020.
“As far back as I can remember, I've always wanted four kids,” Teigen's post begins.
She went on to share that “after losing Jack, I didn't think I'd be able to carry another baby on my own,” continuing to say that “during that time, … one vivid memory of being surrounded by people wanting to make sure I wouldn't experience the pain hurt and lost it again.”
Teigen writes that in 2021, they started their journey of expanding their family via surrogate and have been in touch with the agency to inquire about “possibly having 2 tandem surrogates, to bring us a healthy baby boy or girl respectively. , rather? !”
“At some point, early in our surrogacy journey, I came out of the therapy session, walked downstairs and said to John – I want to try one more hold. If it doesn't work, we'll be fine. We've seen the worst, ” he said, adding that “I promised I would be okay no matter what. I remember saying that I couldn't keep wondering all my life if I should try again.”
Teigen writes that she and Legend began the IVF process – “the same process that gave us our beautiful Luna and Miles” – that resulted in their now five-month-old daughter, Esti, being born in January.
She explained that when they met their surrogate, who is mentioned in Teigen's post as Alexandra, they felt she was “the perfect match for us when we spoke to her.”
“As we crept into the safety zone of my own pregnancy, we were ecstatic to find out Alexandra was carrying a boy. Our boy,” he said.
Teigen went on to thank Alexandra and shared in her post that the couple chose to name their son Wren Alexander Stephens in order to be “forever linked” to their surrogate mother.
The newest additions Legend and Teigen are joined by siblings Luna, 7, Miles, 5, and Esti, 6 months. Teigen wrote an essay in 2020 about her experience losing their son Jack.
“Our hearts, and our home, is officially full. And as for our Jack, we know both of their angelic kisses are from you.”
