CHICAGO (WLS) — A driver died after he was found in a crashed Jeep with gunshot wounds in the Forest Glen neighborhood of the Northwest Side on Monday morning, Chicago police said.

Police said a man in a Silver Jeep SUV was heading south on Cicero Avenue when he was shot in the head. He was found unconscious in the driver's seat of the vehicle at approximately 4:48 a.m. in the 5300 North Cicero Avenue block.

The victim was pronounced dead at the scene. Authorities have not released his identity.

The bullet holes could be seen through the driver's side window, and detectives marked the cartridges with an evidence marker to the north of the scene.

The city leader asked residents to provide any information that could help solve this case. Alderwoman Samantha Nugent, who represents the 39th Ward, released a statement.

“I am furious and disgusted by the gun violence that continues to plague our city. I partnered with the Chicago Police Department and the local police district to install police observation device cameras and license plate readers at strategic locations, including the Peterson and Cicero intersections on the interstate, and crossing wards to help prevent and solve crime,” said Nugent.

It's unclear if anyone else was in the Jeep with the victim.

Area Five detectives are investigating a homicide. No other injuries were reported and no one was detained.

Further details about the circumstances of the shooting were not immediately available.
