The Sun-Times premiere Hear My Story delivers a storytelling experience for all ages at The Hideout. Chicago drag performers tell their stories of perseverance, truth, love, and acceptance, answering the question “Why do I drag?”

Final In July, a family-friendly drag show at the UpRising Bakery and Cafe was canceled following an anti-LGBTQIA+ hate crime and an altercation with Lake in the Hills city officials. In response, the Sun-Times Editorial Board published an editorial, citing that “hate is ineffective”.

We encourage readers and attendees to learn more about LGBTQIA+ artists by listening to their stories and supporting drag art.

Our host, Sun-Times columnist Ismael Perez, joins the cast:

  • Love Jacket, one of the performers scheduled for the UpRising Bakery event. He That a super goofy pop diva from suburban Chicago, wins your heart with her gorgeous looks and captivates you with her camp look.
  • Starr Stallion, a 21-year-old woman from Michigan who teaches people to be confident, fierce, and brave through her theatrical attractiveness.
  • Love Allegra Dee, a high energy, fun, dancing diva who loves to be silly, creative and pays homage to black female artists who are extraordinary in their performances.

Stay tuned for live event recordings!
