Man called 911 and said he was having a 'bad day'. Police find the woman who was fatally stabbed in her South Shore home

Police found the body of a woman in a South Shore apartment after a man called 911 and, “speaking softly and desperately,” told the dispatcher he was having a bad day, police said.

The caller, a 37-year-old man, answered the door of his third-floor apartment in the 2400 East 74th Place block around 9pm Monday and the responding officer saw blood on his hands, according to the police report.

A woman's body was found on the kitchen floor. He suffered multiple stab wounds and was pronounced dead at the scene, police said. He has not been identified.

The two young children in the apartment did not appear to be physically injured but were taken to Comer Children's Hospital for evaluation.

The man was detained and taken to the University of Chicago Medical Center. No fees have been announced.
