CHICAGO (WLS) — A man who was at the Chicago NASCAR street race in downtown Chicago has died, officials said Friday.

Chicago Police said just before 11:30 a.m. a 53-year-old man “suffered injuries” in the 500 block of South Columbus Drive and was taken to Northwestern Memorial Hospital where he was pronounced dead.
The Chicago Fire Department confirmed the man was taken from the NASCAR site in Columbus and Ida B. Wells.

The circumstances surrounding the man's injury and death were not immediately clear.
It is also unknown what role the man played on NASCAR websites, whether he was involved with the organization of sports racing or vendors associated with this weekend's street races, whether he was a spectator, or whether he was simply in the area.
NASCAR has yet to comment on the incident. No further information has been released.
