At the Chicago Sun-Times, we work every day to serve our readers and our Chicago area community. And we know we couldn't do this job without you.
But we know we also need to earn your trust. Because the news has left many people for too long. We know we can and must do more to serve all of our communities, especially those that have been historically marginalized or underserved.
As part of our commitment to centralizing our community, we discontinued our paywall in October, making our content free for everyone. To ensure we focus our efforts on the news you want and need, we need to hear from you and get to know as much of you as possible.
That's why we run a series of community listening sessions — called We Hear You: Meet the Sun-Times Newsroom – in different environments and on different topics. At this session, you'll be able to meet reporters in the Sun-Times newsroom — including Jennifer Kho, our executive editor — and let us know what stories and topics we missed, and ask any questions you may have for us about how the story went. Work.
So far, we've conducted five listening sessions — in partnership with WBEZ — and also conducted a series of interviews with current readers. We've listened to feedback from residents of Little Village, Rogers Park, Albany Park, and Englewood so far, and we'll continue to work our way around town!
Next community listening sessionwill take place in Bronzeville on Wednesday, June 21 from 5-7 PM CT. Join members of the Sun-Times newsroom on Bronzeville Incubator for one-on-one conversations and refreshments. Space is limited, so RSVP here!
We are planning more of these events around town. If you are interested in hosting or participating in an upcoming event to meet with the Sun-Times newsroom, please do fill out this form.
