More than 4 million Americans received checks from Turbo Tax, Inuit for deceptive marketing practices

The more than four million Americans who use Turbo Tax will begin receiving checks from Intuit, which owns the software company.

It was part of a $141 million grant settlement announced last year between the company and 50 states over allegations of deceptive marketing practices.

The state says Intuit is defrauding millions of low-income Americans into paying for supposedly tax-free services.

About 4.4 million consumers nationwide will receive checks in the mail as a result of the multistate settlement, according to Pennsylvania Attorney General Michelle Henry.

Affected taxpayers will receive approximately $30 for each year they paid to file from 2016 to 2018.

Eligible consumers will be contacted via email about settlement, and checks are expected to be mailed out in May, Henry said. You don't need to make a claim.
