Stevenson Expressway accident: Traffic on I-55 NB blocked on Route 53 in Bolingbrook due to fatal hit-and-run accident

BOLINGBROOK, Ill. (WLS) — A pedestrian was killed and another seriously injured in a hit-and-run involving a semi truck on I-55 in Bolingbrook, blocking traffic Friday morning.

The accident occurred at around 3:16 a.m. on the northbound lane near Route 53, police said.

Authorities said two pedestrians were walking along the motorway trying to get gas after their car ran out.

They were then hit by a semi-truck, killing one pedestrian and critically injuring another, IDOT said. The semi-truck left the scene, authorities said.

All I-55 northbound was blocked on Route 53 and ramps from Route 52 north to I-55 north were blocked as well as a police investigation.
