Are you planning to visit Gambia in the near future? Read more below on things to do in The Gambia so you can now prepare for your trip!
The Gambia is a country in West Africa. It is famous for its beaches on the Atlantic coastline. It is also the smallest country on the African continent, which is why traveling around the country is so easy. However, planning is still required when going here.
That's why we created this article for you so that you can prepare it in time before your trip to this country.
Here are things to do in The Gambia that we recommend:
1. Bijilo Forest Park

A very scenic hike, mostly easy with opportunities for nature and bird watching – especially if you leave the first two loop routes and continue on. At first there are lots of visitors, often with guides feeding the vervet and colobus monkeys. Calm observation is rarely thought of. But the park is very beautiful, with different vegetation zones and great walking trails.
2. Gambia River National Park
The Gambia River NP is priceless. You can travel almost silently on a small boat through the mangroves, where there are many rare birds and other animals.
3. Kotu Beach

The beach is very wide and gently sloping. The sand is partly dark, partly light, but fine sand. On the beach, like everywhere, there are merchants. Horseback riding is offered if you want a unique activity on the beach.
4. Kachikally Crocodile Pool

Most tourists come here to pet the crocodiles – quite a special experience when you consider the aggressiveness and reaction speed of the animals that are usually present. The small museum right after the entrance provides interesting details about the traditions of the various Gambian tribes. Plus, you can – if you travel with your eyes open – come across a large number of birds and, if you're lucky, other animals.
5. Albert Market

Royal Albert Market is definitely worth a visit. The market itself is manageable and you get everything you need or don't need including souvenirs and handicrafts.
6. Makasutu Cultural Forest
The park is nearly deserted, so there are good opportunities to explore the area with a guide. It is best to go there with a local guide in a small group. It's fun and you learn a lot about the country and its people. It will be an unforgettable experience; pristine nature, monkey gangs, viewing platforms and a boat trip on the river's branches through the mangroves.
7. Bakau Fish Market
The fish market is really a highlight. Real and genuine Africa in its purest form. This market is one of the best experiences of the whole Gambia trip. If you like taking pictures this is amazing and not to be missed – women in beautiful colorful dresses, men coming from the sea in fine boats and seagulls circling in the sky.
If you are in The Gambia, you need to find a relaxing and comfortable place to stay. We highly recommend Colonial Beach Resort. Located in a very strategic location and offers beautiful natural scenery.
Resort facilities such as swimming pools, bars and restaurants are great entertainment while staying there. They also have quite spacious villas to make you feel at home.
These are things you might be able to do in The Gambia. So if you're ready to go on a fun and exciting trip, you know what to do and where to go! So pack your things now and prepare yourself for an amazing adventure Gambia.
