An Illinois man in the lower states is accused of assaulting a Chicago police officer in Lincoln Park over the weekend, taking the officer's gun and shooting him during the altercation.
Thomas Tucker, 29, approached the officer around 9 p.m. Friday in the 2100 North Cleveland Street block, beat him and took his gun, according to police. Tucker fired his guns but did not hit any.
The officer retrieved the gun and Tucker was arrested after a brief chase, police said.
Tucker, from Quincy, was charged with aggravated gang of police officers, disarming a police officer, aggravated assault, resisting arrest and reckless discharge of a firearm. He is scheduled in court Monday.
